The Monastery of Tatev needs urgent repair and conservation works in order to save it from further decay and to allow its reuse as a Monastery, a religious and a cultural center.

His Holiness Karekin II Catholicos of All the Armenians intends to restore the Monastery of Tatev and so has designated a group of international experts coordinated by Karedaran NGO to the carry out of the design of restoration works.

The project will be donated to His Holiness Karekin II Catholicos of All the Armenians thanks to the collaboration of Centro Studi e Documentazione della Cultura Armena (CSDCA), Protection of Armenian Cultural Treasures Inc. (P.A.C.T.), Karedaran and the World Bank through the Armenia Cultural Heritage Initiative Project (that is focused on Tatev village).

As agreed, the project will be designed in order to respect:

1. the indications that His Holiness Karekin II Catholicos of All the Armenians will give about the needs relative to the future utilization of the Monastery.

2. The rules of Armenian Government for monuments restoration, in particular Karedaran will work in order to obtain all the necessary approvals and authorizations from the Board of Art and Historic Monuments Conservation of Armenian Republic.

3. The international Charts of restoration.
